Gov. Kathy Hochul gained two more endorsements for re-election Thursday from two members of the New York state Senate.

The governor received the backing from Sen. Pete Harckham, of the Hudson Valley, and Sen. Jeremy Cooney, from the Rochester area.

"Governor Hochul has earned the right to a full term," Sen. Harckham said. "She has been true to her word, and in a short amount of time has become the transformative leader we need to address the opioid crisis and save the lives of New Yorkers living with substance use disorder. Her collaborative approach with the legislature is serving New York residents and businesses well, and her clear leadership through this latest round of the pandemic is decisive. I enthusiastically endorse her for a full term as our governor."

"Kathy Hochul knows all of New York, and that includes her special love for Western New York," Sen. Cooney said. "I’ve worked with Kathy as a member of Congress, lieutenant governor, and now as New York’s first woman governor. No matter her title, she leads with compassion, communication, and consensus building. This is exactly the type of governor we need to help us navigate the pandemic and grow a stronger, more unified New York State. I’m proud to call her my friend and partner in doing the work on behalf of the citizens in Rochester.”

Hochul took office on Aug. 24 following the resignation of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo. She is running for a full term of her own right in 2022. She is being challenged for the Democratic nomination by U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams.
