Assemblyman David Buchwald has released his first TV ad of his congressional campaign, a 30-second spot that focuses on pulling together during the coronavirus pandemic.

The ad is perhaps one of the first to seize on the new normal of the last two weeks, featuring the candidate talking through a laptop computer as millions of Americans take to video streaming to have conversations with loved ones.

“Our community, our state, and our nation are in the midst of an unprecedented crisis, made worse by mismanagement and misinformation out of Washington,” Buchwald said in a statement. “But here in New York, our healthcare professionals, first responders, teachers, and so many others on the front lines are proving that we are stronger than any pandemic.”

The ad touts the passage of a state-based emergency measure that provided for mid-year appropriations and more powers for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to handle the crisis.

“Even after this crisis, there is going to be a hard road to recovery ahead, and I am running for Congress because I have a record of results, and the experience of making government work by building coalitions to achieve our common goals," Buchwald said.

"We need to keep sight of what’s important now -- standing together and supporting one another -- but we also need to plan for what comes next. It’s time for experienced leadership that delivers.”

Buchwald is competing in the crowded Democratic field for the 17th congressional district nomination on June 23. The suburban New York City House seat is being vacated by Rep. Nita Lowey.
