The Rev. Al Sharpton late last week backed a proposed bill that would develop a commission to study judicial diversity in New York.

The bill, backed by Sen. Brad Hoylman, would require the Office of Court Administration to collect and publish an annual report on the diversity of New York's bench.

Sharpton praised the measure as part of a push in the state of Delaware for reforming their own judicial nominating process.

"The differences between my home state and Delaware could not be more stark. In New York, one of the most diverse states in the country, legislators are taking it upon themselves to look inward and see how they can make their courts even more inclusive," Sharpton said. "I'm proud to endorse Senator Hoylman's effort to make New York's courts more inclusive, and I hope the members of Delaware's legislature are watching to see what real leadership looks like."
