Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin on Tuesday was endorsed by the state Conservative Party in his bid for re-election to his eastern Long Island House seat.

"The Suffolk County Conservative Party is pleased to once again endorse Congressman Lee Zeldin for re-election," said Suffolk County Conservative Party Chairman Frank Tinari. "The Conservative Party supports candidates who will secure our borders, oppose burdensome government outreach, and stand up for taxpayers. Lee Zeldin shares the values and purpose of our mission. This fall, Democrats are offering candidates that will destroy our pocketbooks and economy, erode our public safety and rule of law, take away our private health insurance, and far more. Lee Zeldin is endorsed because we know he will never waiver in defense of taxpayers and our community."

Zeldin, a former member of the state Senate, is a prominent supporter of President Donald Trump. He's represented the 1st congressional district since 2015. In prior election cycles, the seat has been considered a swing district for Democrats and Republicans.

"I'm grateful for the continued support of the Conservative Party and their hard work electing conservatives in Suffolk County and across the State of New York. Together, we remain committed to fighting for lower taxes, curbing excessive government spending, securing our borders, and protecting public safety," Zeldin said. "I will continue honoring that commitment in Congress against extreme Democrats who would rather hijack Congress to impeach a duly elected President than to find common ground on important policy priorities to move our country forward."
