Democratic state Sen. James Skoufis on Tuesday was endorsed by George Meyers, the Republican supervisor of the town of New Windsor.

Skoufis is running for a second term in a Hudson Valley seat that he flipped in 2018. The district had been represented for a generation by the late Republican Sen. Bill Larkin, who retired from the chamber that year.

Democrats that year gained control of the state Senate for the first time in a decade, winning a landslide majority in the process in key districts on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley. Those seats are likely once again expected to be sites for top battleground races for the state Senate.

“At a time when our national government continues to embarrass itself on a daily basis, I've always been proud to partner with people of all political affiliations on behalf of the people I represent,” Skoufis said. “George Meyers is a public servant in every sense of the phrase and I am extremely privileged and thankful to have his support for re-election.”

Meyers has served as the New Windsor supervisor from 1994 to 2005 and was elected to the post again in November.

“Senator Skoufis has been and will continue to be a champion for New Windsor’s residents,” Meyers said. “In 2020, we are partnering together to rebuild our town's infrastructure, clean up our water, promote more responsible development, and get our fair share from Albany in order to keep taxes down. He has my full support for a well-deserved re-election.”
