New York GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy on Monday is set to endorse Republican congressional candidate Liz Joy to run for a Capital Region House district.
Joy is vying for the GOP nomination to challenge Democratic Rep. Paul Tonko this fall. Republican Michael Seney has also filed paperwork to run for the GOP nomination in the June primary.
“The 2020 elections will be a stark choice between Democrats’ radical socialist agenda and the Republican agenda of freedom, security and prosperity,” Langworthy said in a statement. “Liz is a true patriot who represents the values of Upstate New York and unapologetically fights for a strong America.”
Tonko, first elected to Congress in 2008, represents one of the safest Democratic House seats north of New York City. Still, Joy and Republicans hope to be competitive in the district this year. Joy is a real estate agent and an author who lives in Schenectady. Her husband is a veteran who has served in the Active Duty Medical Corps.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the support of our New York Republican Chairman Nick Langworthy,” Joy said. “I stepped forward to run because I was deeply concerned about the direction Paul Tonko and his radical Democrat Party are taking our nation.”
