Ten people were shot in Albany over the Fourth of July holiday in separate incidents involving juvenile offenders.

The age of the offenders has reignited calls to reform the state’s Raise the Age law, which allows offenders ages 16 and 17 to avoid being prosecuted as adults.

Over the weekend, the mayor of Albany, along with the police chief and district attorney, held a press conference during which they expressed concerns with the state’s Raise the Age policy.

Lee Kindlon, district attorney for Albany County, joined Capital Tonight to discuss the specifics around the state Raise the Age policy that he believes should be amended, and why counties would be better served receiving state funding for supports up-front.
