To better protect Jewish communities, members of New York’s congressional delegation called for $500 million in federal funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program.
“This program helps nonprofit organizations at high risk of attacks like our synagogues. It allows them to secure their buildings, hire security professionals, install security cameras,” Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand explained.

“I’ve heard from Jewish people across New York who are terrified,” she continued during a press conference at her Manhattan office Monday morning.
The Republican led House Appropriations Committee just released its Homeland Security Bill, which proposes $305 million for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program.
“That is in line with fiscal year 2023, which was before Oct. 7, before this dramatic increase in antisemitism and before the horrific violent acts of the last month,” Rep. Dan Goldman said.
Goldman referenced the murder of two Israeli Embassy workers last month and the Molotov cocktail attack in Boulder, Colorado of demonstrators calling for the release of Israeli hostages.
“Every single Jewish nonprofit organization has to increase their security now,” he said.
