Mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani embraced a new endorsement from one fellow Democratic Tuesday.

“I could not be more excited that Zohran is running to make fare-free buses a reality across New York City,” said Queens Democratic state Assemblywoman Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas.

In a sign that his campaign for mayor may be continuing to gain traction, the knives are out for the Queens assemblyman. He was also slammed by Republican Councilwoman Vickie Paladino.

She posted on X Tuesday that the Ugandan-born mayoral candidate should be deported for his left-leaning policy stances.

“I could not quite believe it. One of the happiest days of my life was when I got my citizenship. When I sat with so many other immigrants and was sworn in,” Mamdani said during an event in Jackson Heights, Queens.

Mamdani has been a U.S. citizen since 2018.

“To ask for me to be deported. It was a glimpse for me into the lives that so many New Yorkers are living right now,” he said. “Because if an elected official feels empowered and emboldened enough to call for that against a leading candidate for mayor, what would she be willing to call for, for an immigrant whose name she doesn’t even know?”

Meanwhile, Democratic rival Whitney Tilson also released a new ad taking aim at Mamdani.

“The socialists are at the gate and Zohran Mamdani is leading the pack. If they take over New York City, this is what they said they’ll do: Defund the police, consequences for genocidal Zionist imperialism,” the 25-second digital ad said.

Mamdani says it’s not stopping his momentum.

“Yet another desperate attempt from a Wall Street executive trying to distract from the fact that his campaign is failing,” he said.

Also Tuesday, a surprising endorsement came from a longtime government watchdog group.

Citizens Union released its ranked-choice voting endorsement slate in no particular order: former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, City Comptroller Brad Lander and Brooklyn state Sen. Zellnor Myrie.

While praising Cuomo, also adding in the group’s reason behind backing Cuomo, that he “left serious ethical stains and he too often misused the power whose deployment he so skillfully mastered.”

“He cut pensions for our public sector workers. The fact that he is even ranked in anyone’s top choice is baffling to me!” Gonzalez-Rojas said, reacting to the news.

Early voting for the primary election is from Saturday, June 14 to Sunday, June 22. Election Day is Tuesday, June 24.
