Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado announced on Monday that he's challenging Gov. Kathy Hochul in next year’s Democratic primary for governor.

In a video, Delgado said there's a need for "bold, decisive, transformational leadership" in New York.

He also shared the video on X, where he wrote, “New York, I’m not here to play the game, I’m here to change it.”

Hochul chose Delgado, a former upstate congressman, to be her lieutenant governor in 2022.

Delgado had announced earlier this year that he would not run for reelection as lieutenant governor alongside Hochul next year.

This is Hochul’s first official challenger in the race, with Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres also considering a primary run.

Delgado will be a guest on "Inside City Hall" on NY1 Tuesday night.
