Republicans in New York state are eyeing the 2026 governor’s race with some newfound hope, and a deeper-than-usual bench.

So far, U.S. Reps. Elise Stefanik and Mike Lawler both say they are considering a run against incumbent Kathy Hochul.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman was also in the mix for the state’s highest office but may now be focusing his efforts on reelection to the top spot in Nassau County.
