With a focus on the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, President Donald Trump’s "border czar" Tom Homan was back in the city on Tuesday.

“Every member of TDA should be on the run because the Trump administration is committed to removing every single member of TDA and MS-13," Homan said.

What You Need To Know

  • President Donald Trump's "border czar" Tom Homan was in the city on Tuesday

  • Homan joined Mayor Eric Adams, police and immigration officials to announce the takedown of nearly 30 alleged Tren de Aragua members

  • The indictment served as a springboard for Adams and Homan to push their immigration agenda, including having U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reopen their office on Rikers Island

His last-minute visit was to join city officials to announce the arrests of nearly 30 alleged gang members.

The arrests come one day after a state judge blocked the Adams administration from allowing federal immigration agents back onto Rikers Island.

“Work with us, give us access to the person you locked in a jail cell cause they’re obviously a public safety threat. That’s all we're asking." Homan said.

The press conference served as a springboard for Mayor Eric Adams and Homan to push their immigration agenda.

“I’m not apologizing for going after those who carry these illegal guns wreaking havoc on communities,” Adams said.

“This is what collaboration looks like. This is why I’ve been working with Mayor Adams since November. I never asked the city, the NYPD, to be immigration officers. I asked them to work with us on significant public safety threats and national security threats and that’s what we’re committed to doing,” Homan said.

When asked about the potential to mistakenly deport someone, like the case of the Maryland father Kilmar Abrego Garcia, Homan said, “There’s been no mistakes.”

“I stand by the fact that this guy is an El Salvadoran national, criminal, alien, and terrorist is home.," he continued.

The federal government in court documents has admitted that it was an “administrative error” that led to Garcia’s deportation without due process to the mega prison known as CECOT.

The mayor earlier in the day attacked Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen for visiting Garcia, despite saying he believes in due process.

“I will tell you this: we have dangerous gangs in our city. And I would not be sipping drinks with them. I would not be turning them into heroes," Adams said.
