The New York state Republican Party’s Albany headquarters was vandalized overnight, the party announced Thursday on X.

The New York GOP posted photos showing swastikas, which were used as a national symbol in Nazi Germany in the 1930s and 1940s, had been taped to parts of the building, including a sign that reads "If this is not what you stand for, prove it."

“A vandal duct taped swastikas to our doors and windows - symbols of genocidal evil, meant to intimidate and silence. This is not only an attack on our party, it is also an attack on the values of civil discourse, democracy and decency,” party chair Ed Cox said in a statement.

Cox and various other state Republican officials condemned the act and called on Gov. Kathy Hochul and other Democratic officeholders to denounce the acts.

"This is unacceptable. No one should ever resort to violence or vandalism to make a political point. Grateful for the swift response of the Albany Police Department to keep this location safe and hold those responsible for this despicable act accountable," Hochul said in a statement in X.

The GOP said Albany Police are currently investigating the incident.
