U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy’s district office in Clarence was evacuated on Thursday after a suspicious package was found at the location, the Republican congressman said.
Local law enforcement and the Capitol Police were notified and are investigating the matter.
“The safety of our staff and visiting public is my top priority, and until our office reopens, we urge all residents who need assistance to contact our Washington DC office, or one of our other offices in Jamestown, Olean, or Corning,” Langworthy said in a statement.
Langworthy represents New York's 23rd Congressional District, which is made up of a large swath of Western New York and the Southern Tier.
It’s the second incident involving a New York member of Congress in the last week. Rep. Claudia Tenney’s district offices were closed for three days last week after threats of violence and intimidation against her staff.
