The city of Albany may be getting a major facelift.
In her State of the State address, Gov. Kathy Hochul proposed spending $400 million to revitalize the city, which has struggled with issues like safety in the wake of the pandemic.
Under that $400 million umbrella, $150 million will be used to modernize the state museum, while another $200 million will support unspecified projects in the city’s downtown. About $35 million will be spent on a proposal to revamp Interstate 787, and $1 million is designated to improve public safety in Albany.
This is on top of a $1.7 billion redevelopment of the Wadsworth Public Health lab that was allocated in the FY-23/24 budget.
State Sen. Pat Fahy and state Assemblymember Gabriella Romero, who both represent the Capital Region, joined Capital Tonight’s Susan Arbetter to discuss the proposal.
