Starting this month, all private-sector employers in New York state must provide eligible employees 20 hours of paid prenatal personal leave.
This is on top of any other leave policies employees are entitled to.
New York’s first-in-the-nation program is meant to cover the following kinds of appointments:
- Physical examinations
- Medical procedures
- Monitoring and testing
- Pregnancy-related discussions with health care providers
- Fertility treatments
- End-of-pregnancy appointments
State Labor commissioner Roberta Reardon discussed the new program with Capital Tonight host Susan Arbetter.
