With the 119th Congress underway, New York’s newest members of the House of Representatives received their committee assignments on Tuesday.

Democratic Rep. John Mannion, of the 22nd District in Central New York, was appointed to the House Education and Workforce Committee, as well as the House Agriculture Committee.

“As a lifelong educator, former union president, and state senator who delivered results and lowered costs for working families, I look forward to championing policies that invest in education, strengthen our workforce, and ensure the success of Micron’s transformational $100B semiconductor facility in NY-22,” Mannion said in a statement. “On the Agriculture Committee, I will work to support New York’s farmers and provide our rural communities with better access to healthcare and broadband while protecting our food supply and advancing child nutrition programs. I’m grateful to the House Steering and Policy Committee for entrusting me with these critical roles.”

Also joining the House Agriculture Committee will be Democratic Rep. Josh Riley, of the 19th District in the Hudson Valley and Southern Tier. He was also appointed to the Committee on Science, Space and Technology.

“Upstate New York’s farms are the backbone of our economy, our communities, and our way of life. I’ve seen firsthand how hard our growers and producers work to feed this country, and I know how big corporate ag monopolies threaten their survival,” Riley said in a statement. “Over the next two years, I’ll fight tirelessly to protect family farms, ensure local farmers get their fair share, and break down the barriers that stand between Upstate producers and the success they’ve earned.”

Democratic Rep. Laura Gillen, of the 4th District on Long Island, will also be on the Science, Space and Technology Committee, as well as the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

As a Member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, I will fight to improve Nassau County’s infrastructure: repairing our heavily-traveled highways, roads, and bridges, bringing home federal dollars for the busiest commuter rail system in the country, ensuring clean drinking water, strengthening our emergency preparedness against natural disasters, and protecting our shoreline. I will fight to protect critical federal investments the benefit Long Island, including funds from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act that are helping grow our region’s economy and directly enhancing our communities,” Gillen said in a statement. “Long Island has long been a major player in America’s innovation economy. I will use my role on the House Science, Space & Technology Committee to bring good-paying jobs home to Nassau County, bolster research and drive STEM innovation, and improve the lives of my constituents. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle on these committees to deliver real results for Nassau County.”

Democratic Rep. George Latimer, of the 16th Congressional District in the Hudson Valley, will join the Foreign Affairs Committee and Small Business Committee.
