Advocates held a rally in Albany Wednesday calling on Gov. Kathy Hochul and state lawmakers to pass several bills to protect immigrants in the state as President-elect Donald Trump is set to return to the White House.

The four pieces of legislation include a bill that would prohibit state and local agencies from cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as well as U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Another bill would create a right to counsel in immigration courts for those at risk of deportation.

Advocates say they want the Legislature to take action to fight against Trump's mass deportation plan.

"So we are here saying we are clear with our intentions to fight for all New Yorkers this session," state Assemblymember Karines Reyes, D-Bronx, said. "We have presented a list of priorities that we think will help do that and really draw the line in the sand of what New York stands for. New York is an immigrant town. New York was built by immigrants, for immigrants and we will continue to fight for that."
