New York’s U.S. House victories were among the few bright spots this election season for Democrats.

Democrats flipped three seats: the 22nd Congressional District in Central New York, the 4th District on Long Island and the 19th District in the Southern Tier and Hudson Valley. But it wasn’t enough to flip control of the House, which is still in Republican hands.

Nevertheless, elected officials are returning to work this week to a very changed Washington, D.C., including West Point graduate, Army veteran and former Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan who handily retained his seat in the competitive 18th District.

Ryan, a Democrat, spoke with Capital Tonight’s Susan Arbetter about his race, congestion pricing and his “combative” colleague, Matt Gaetz, who will be nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as attorney general.
