Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown's final day will be sometime next week, according to a spokesperson for the mayor's office.

They say Brown's last day as mayor will likely be Tuesday or Wednesday.

Brown, 66, is leaving in order to become the new president and CEO of Western Regional Off-Track Betting.

Chris Scanlon, the Buffalo Common Council president, will become acting mayor upon Brown's official resignation.

Gov. Kathy Hochul during a stop in Buffalo Friday said she was happy for her long-time colleague.

"It's been a real privilege to work with someone who understands this community so innately and cares so deeply and I'm delighted for him that he was able to secure this job for himself and when you think about the organizational skills, the executive management skills that a mayor brings to a position like that, I think they'll be fortunate to have him," Hochul said.

Brown, a Democrat, is the longest-serving mayor in city history, holding office since 2006.
