On Wednesday, former New York Gov. David Paterson endorsed Westchester County Executive George Latimer in the race.

“He just tries to get things done,” Paterson said during a press conference in Co-op City, announcing his support for Latimer.

“My record in Westchester is not just that I’ve been around, my record is that I try to understand problems and address them,” Latimer explained.

Latimer wants to replace current Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman.

“I don’t see it as a challenge of an incumbent as much as its offering a choice," Latimer told.

With congressional maps redrawn earlier this year, the district stretches from Westchester to the Northern Bronx and now includes Co-op City.

“Co-op City is a very important part of the district. It is one of the largest complexes in the entire country,” J. C. Polanco, a political analyst, said.

A former school principal, Bowman first went to Washington in 2021, where he quickly aligned himself with fellow progressive Democrats.

“We will always govern from the perspective of the people. That’s just the way it’s going to be and if weren’t having an impact, the whole country wouldn’t be attacking us,” Bowman told supporters at a reelection rally earlier this year.

Latimer believes his approach to politics will resonate with Westchester and Bronx voters.

“I think the key thing is to look for allies on specific issues. If you think about the macro issues where you disagree, culture war issues, then you get tied up into the same BS that’s been going on,” Latimer said.
