New York Gov. Kathy Hochul will attend Thursday’s State of the Union address by President Biden as a guest to Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat, Spectrum News 1 learned Wednesday.

Espaillat represents New York's 13th Congressional District.

"There's so much at stake for New York: federally-funded transit projects like the next phase of the Second Avenue Subway, lowering costs for families in New York and across the nation, and addressing immigration and border security after House Republicans killed President Biden's sensible bipartisan compromise," Hochul said in a statement. "That's why I'm honored to accept my friend Congressman Espaillat's invitation to join him in the Capitol as his guest for the State of the Union. We're proud of the strong partnership between New York, our leaders in Congress and the Biden Administration and look forward to continued partnership.”

Each year, members of Congress bring a guest to Washington, D.C., to attend the president’s annual report to Congress known as the State of the Union. This year’s speech will offer an opportunity for Biden to detail his broader vision and policy priorities as he campaigns for reelection in November.

The guests of the elected officials typically highlight a national or district issue.

To name a few other attendees, Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik is bringing Brandon Budlong, a border patrol agent and president of the National Border Patrol Council 2724. Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney is bringing the family of a Western New York man, Ryan Corbett, who's been held captive by the Taliban for 19 months. Democratic Rep. Pat Ryan will bring Poughkeepsie Mayor Yvonne Flowers.

Biden will give his speech at 9 p.m. Thursday from the House of Representatives chamber. You can watch live coverage on Spectrum News 1.
