The Cayuga County Democratic Committee has endorsed state Sen. John Mannion for the Democratic nomination in the race for New York's 22nd Congressional District.

Following new congressional maps drafted by and passed by the state Legislature last week, the 22nd District now includes southern Cayuga County, including the city of Auburn.

Mannion currently has the backing of the Onondaga County Democratic Committee while DeWitt Town Councilor Sarah Klee Hood has the backing of the Madison County Democrats. Oneida County Democrats recently held off on backing a candidate while the redistricting cycle was still ongoing. While the old lines included the entire county, the new lines include southern Oneida County, including the city of Utica. The city of Rome is now part of the 21st District, held by Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik.

Utica University professor Clemmie Harris is also a Democratic candidate for the 22nd District, which is currently represented by freshman Republican Rep. Brandon Williams.
