A Manhattan grand jury on Thursday voted to indict former President Donald Trump in a case relating to payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Trump is the first former or current president in American history to be indicted in a criminal case.

In a statement, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said that they have “contacted Mr. Trump’s attorney to coordinate his surrender” and that further guidance will be released “when the arraignment date is selected.”

In response to the news, the former president used his social media site, Truth Social, to call the indictment “an attack on our country the likes of which has never been seen before.”

Chris Grant, Republican strategist and CEO of Big Dog Strategies, told Capital Tonight that Trump supporters see the indictment as an attack on their values and not on the former president himself. Grant also argues that the indictment was done in a “banana republic style.”

On the other side of the aisle, Jack O’Donnell, Democratic strategist and Managing Partner at O’Donnell and Associates, argues that the indictment speaks to “American values” and that it is “not shocking that we’ve come to this point” and adds he “wouldn’t be surprised to see more” in the coming process.
