U.S. Rep. Brandon Williams, the new Republican congressman representing Central New York, has secured his second House committee assignment, this time on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.

The panel deals with matters of consumer health and safety, product regulation, digital privacy and security, as well as energy production and consumption practices.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to work towards regulatory reforms within the technology industry, bringing science and technology jobs back home, and combating intellectual property theft from China," Williams said in a statement Wednesday.

Williams founded a software company and has a military background.

New York has not had a Republican member of Congress on the committee in several years.

Williams will also serve on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
