Despite putting up the strongest showing in a gubernatorial race since George Pataki, the Grand Old Party fell short of the Executive Mansion yet again but the party’s chairman, Nick Langworthy, still touts the results in New York as very good.

Langworthy highlights major congressional wins on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley as Republican bright spots in an election that was considered a red ripple over a wave election nationwide.

Republican Michael Lawler, a freshman state assemblymember, was able to knock off the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. The last time a DCCC chair was defeated in their own constituency was back in 1980 when James Corman of California lost in the Reagan Revolution.

It was a good personal night for the GOP chairman as he was elected in the 23rd Congressional District with 65% of the vote. Langworthy said he is grateful for the win and the size of victory gives him a “mandate to be a loud and effective voice for the Southern Tier and Western New York.”
