Democratic Rep. Brian Higgins has been re-elected to a 10th term in Congress, defeating Republican challenger Steven Sams in the race for New York’s 26th Congressional District, the Associated Press projects.

Higgins has represented the Western New York district since 2005. The new boundaries encompass Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

Higgins has most recently served on the House Committee on Ways and Means, where he also serves as a member of the Subcommittees on Health, Trade, and Social Security. He also serves on the House Committee on the Budget.

Higgins will be sworn in to the 118th Congress on Jan. 3, 2023.
