Since the violence that occurred last week at the New York State Capitol, the FBI has been warning of new possible armed protests at state capitols across the Country.

However, Thomas Relford, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Albany field office, said they have not uncovered any specific threats aimed at the New York State Capitol.

“That said, between now and January 20, Inauguration Day, we will be maintaining a heightened posture to monitor any threat that may come into our region,” Relford said Thursday in a joint press conference.

Relford assured that the FBI is using every resource available to track down anyone in New York who participated in the attack at the U.S. Capitol.

The FBI has already identified one Syracuse resident, Albert Ciarpelli, who will face charges in connection with the riot that occurred on January 6.

“We remain dedicated in ensuring that everyone who broke the law last week is held accountable,” Relford stated.

Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York Antoinette Bacon said they are ready to bring forward federal charges against anyone who participates in violence over the next week in New York.

New York State Police have already been ramping up security at the State Capitol over the past few days. Certain entrances to the building are closed and cement barricades are blocking one side of the street leading to the Capitol.

Bacon and Relford emphasized that they have no interest in breaking up any peaceful protests planned for this weekend.

“Our focus is on those who are threatening the safety of peaceful protestors or the safety of other citizens,” Bacon said. “Those who commit crimes will be held accountable.”

“We are focused on identifying, investigating, and disrupting any individuals looking to ignore the law and incite violence or engage in criminal activity,” Relford said. “Anyone who does should be prepared to be met with the full force of our office and the United State Attorney’s office.”

Relford said they will be opening up a command post, working in conjuncture with State and local police departments and maintaining heightened security until President-elect Joe Biden is inaugurated on January 20.

Anyone with any information of planned violent protests in the coming days should call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
