State Senate candidate Samra Brouk reported today a fundraising total of more $127,137 for the reporting period ending on July 11, bringing the total raised to more than $225,000.

The Democratic candidate now has $197,026 cash on hand for the general election.

Around 1,345 donated to Brouk’s grassroots campaign and the average contribution was $98.73.

“Money doesn’t win elections; people do. I am humbled by the groundswell of grassroots support for my campaign to serve our community as a State Senator,” said Brouk in a statement.

Brouk is running for the 55th Senate District seat in the Rochester area, currently being held by Republican Senator Rich Funke who is not running for re-election in the fall. 

If elected, Brouk would be the first African American woman to represent the region in the state Legislature.
