Born in Ithaca and raised just south of Albany, Kate Lisa is a lifelong upstater who loves the Empire State.
Kate graduated from Auburn University's School of Journalism in 2014 and hit the ground running reporting and editing for several Capital Region newspapers since. Her coverage of former President Donald Trump's 2016 Albany rally was featured on "Good Morning America," CNN and others, and she was named one of "Editor & Publisher's 25 under 35” in 2019.
Kate joined the Capital Tonight team in March 2022 after covering state politics for more than one dozen papers for Johnson Newspaper Corp.
Speaking with a variety of people and sharing their stories with fellow New Yorkers has opened Kate's world, and she delights in having a hand in broadening people's perspectives. She is passionate about the press's vital role in a healthy democracy, and aims to bring accurate and fair coverage to her community.
Kate is a classically trained pianist who likes to cook, read and drink wine with friends in her spare time. When she's not chasing down elected officials for an interview, Kate also loves to care for her three special-needs cats, who have four eyes between them, at her home in Albany's Center Square neighborhood.
