New York Assembly lawmakers and staffers have been told to prepare for two days of legislative work beginning June 20, a source familiar with the discussion said on Tuesday.
The state Assembly is returning for a two-day sint of voting on unfinished business. Many of the bills being considered are local-level concerns for lawmakers.
But at the same time, Democratic legislators and advocates are pushing for legislation that would have a much heavier impact, including a bill that would extend state subsidized health care coverage to New Yorkers without legal status living in the state.
The measure was previously approved in the state Senate in the final days of the scheduled legislative session last week.
Advocates are also expected to push for the final passage of a measure that would enable New York City to set its own speed limit.
Meanwhile, a measure that would amend the tribal-state compact with the Seneca Nation of Indians is also being closely scrutinized. The bill cleared the state Senate, but is yet to be taken up in the state Assembly. But that provision is now complicated by the opposition from some Rochester-area lawmakers over the prospect of a casino being built in that city.
