State lawmakers this week are considering advancing a measure to move New York's presidential primaries from April 30 to April 2, creating what would amount to a regional primary for the presidential race.

A bill in the state Senate is expected to be considered this week as the Legislature concludes its session.

If signed into law, New York's presidential primary could align with neighboring Connecticut and Pennsylvania and give the state bonus delegates at the Democratic Naitonal Convention. Both states are also weighing presidential primaries for April 2.

National Democrats have signaled states that have their primary votes held on the same day as two bordering states would be awarded an addtional 15% delegates at the party convention.

New York's state and congressional primaries will be held the final Tuesday in June.
