A pair of digital ads were released Tuesday by Gov. Kathy Hochul's campaign touting her administration's efforts to reduce gun violence and, separately, her support for abortion rights.
Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin's campaign, meanwhile, announced yet another law enforcement endorsement, his 28th so far of the campaign as he continues to run on a public safety platform.
The ads and the endorsement underscore how both Hochul and Zeldin are focusing on key issues for not just their base of supporters, but also independent voters who may be swayed by either support for abortion rights or concerns surrounding crime.
One of Hochul's ads features a retired police officer praising the effort by the state to tackle illegal guns that flow into New York. In another ad, a Long Island resident offers a first-person testimonial on access to abortion services.
Zeldin's campaign pointed to its endorsement from New York State Law Enforcement Officers Union, Council 82 - Local 325 C as he continues to call for changes to the state's criminal justice laws.
"We anticipate the positive changes that your term as Governor could bring to the state such as a repeal to the HALT act, a fix or repeal to ‘Bail Reform’, and a remedy to many other criminal justice reforms which have jeopardized the safety of our officers and all citizens of New York," said Derrick Askey, Vice President of Council 82, Local 325 C. "We would also like to express our heartfelt appreciation for your honorable service to this country, both as a member of the United States Armed Forces and as a Representative in the United States House of Representatives."
