Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie on Saturday endorsed Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney ahead of his Democratic primary next week.
"Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney is a powerful voice for the Hudson Valley and all New Yorkers in Washington," Heastie said. "From infrastructure to education to health care, he has always worked with leaders in Albany to get our state the resources we need and he has my full support. Voters in the Hudson Valley should support Sean if they want a leader who will get things done."
Heastie is the latest Albany lawmaker to back Maloney's bid for re-election as he faces state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi for the party's nomination. Maloney was previously endorsed by Sens. Peter Harckham and Elija Reichlin-Melnick, as well as Assembly members Chris Burdick, Sandy Galef and Ken Zebrowski.
Biaggi earlier this week picked up a labor union endorsement, winning the backing of the United Auto Workers Region 9A.
"Our members need a fighter in Congress who represents us, not the big money special interests. Alessandra Biaggi stood with us in Albany and we know she will stand with us in Washington on raising the federal minimum wage, making drugs affordable, fighting against climate change and creating living wage green jobs, and protecting and expanding the right to unionize," said UAW Region 9A Regional Director Beverley Brakeman.
