Gov. Kathy Hochul and her runningmate Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado were endorsed Wednesday by a national abortion-rights organization as the Democratic ticket runs for a full term this November.

The Hochul-Delgado campaign was endorsed by the National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund PAC, a nod that comes as Democrats have sought to rally the base over the issue of abortion rights following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

“New York will not go backward on my watch,” Hochul said. “We’re protecting abortion rights, investing in reproductive care, and ensuring abortion remains accessible within our borders. I am honored to receive this endorsement and to continue working together with the National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund PAC to uphold abortion rights and access for all.”

Hochul and state lawmakers earlier this year agreed to a package of measures meant to strengthen abortion rights in New York. At the same time, Hochul has sent money to abortion and reproductive services providers to help expand their facilities and upgrade security ahead of what is expected to be an influx of women seeking the procedure from states were it is being restricted.

State lawmakers also gave first passage to a proposesd constitutional amendment that will among other provisions enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution.

“Governor Hochul has worked hand in hand with New York advocates to ensure that New York will be a place that not only protects the right to abortion but also ensures real access to all reproductive health care — not only for our residents but for those who may travel here for care,” said Andrea Miller, the president of the PAC.“Her administration has worked to expand the capacity and security of our providers, and she signed crucial legislation expanding insurance coverage for abortion care. By contrast, her opponent is an anti-abortion zealot, who has made it very clear that he does not care about the health and safety of New Yorkers. He has voted in favor of abortion bans and has said that he would appoint an anti-abortion Health Commissioner. I can’t think of anyone more dangerous or out of touch with New Yorkers’ values than Lee Zeldin.”
