New York is receiving more than $4.2 million in federal American Rescue Plan funding to provide support for community health centers in the state, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced Monday.

The money is expected to reach 65 health centers in New York and is part of nearly $90 million in nationwide funding for the facilities, federal officials said.

“We have prioritized advancing equity in our COVID-19 response and throughout all of our work,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra. “Community health centers have played a pivotal role in the nation’s COVID-19 response, and now serve more than 30 million people across the country. Today’s investments will help ensure that all patients have equitable access to the high-quality health care they deserve.”

The money will go toward data modernization at the health centers to help them better identify and respond to the specific needs of patients and communities. The money is also meant to be used to improve COVID-19 response and recovery efforts as well as help health centers prepare for future public health crises.
