A prominent LGBTQ organization has endorsed Gov. Kathy Hochul's bid for a full term.

Hochul last week received the backing of the Human Rights Campaign, a politically influential organization that pointed to her support for LGBTQ+ rights in New York.

“As a U.S. Representative, Lieutenant Governor, and now Governor, Kathy Hochul has been an unwavering advocate and champion for equality,” said Human Rights Campaign Senior Vice President, Policy & Political Affairs JoDee Winterhof. “At a time where the LGBTQ+ community faces unprecedented attacks, Governor Hochul has fought to provide critical resources for gender non-conforming and non-binary New Yorkers. Thanks to Governor Hochul, New York – part of the bedrock of the modern LGBTQ+ movement – is at the forefront of LGBTQ+ equality. The Human Rights Campaign is proud to support her bid for reelection.”

The backing of the organization for Hochul's campaign comes as Democrats in New York and across the country have seized on social issues like LGBTQ rights as well as abortion access in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade.

“During a time when basic human rights are under attack nationwide, I can promise you that New York will never be dragged backward — we will lead,” Hochul said. “It is an honor to receive this endorsement and to continue to work in partnership with the Human Rights Campaign to empower our LGBTQ+ communities, guarantee abortion rights in New York state, and fight for true liberty and justice for all.”
