Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul's campaign has a large monetary advantage over her Republican challenger, Rep. Lee Zeldin, has the general election gets underway in New York.

Both Hochul and Zeldin were victorious in their prospective party primaries last month. But the cash difference for both campaigns is starkly different.

Hochul's campaign on Friday reported $11.7 million in cash on hand after raising more than $2 million between June 14 and July 11. Zeldin's filing shows he has $1.57 million in cash on hand.

Zeldin's bid for governor began the year with $5.6 million in the bank. The preferred nominee of the state Republican committee after the February state convention, Zeldin was in a four-candidate field for the Republican nomination.

He ultimately defeated businessman Harry Wilson, former Trump administration official Andrew Giuliani and former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino.

Hochul faced New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Rep. Tom Suozzi on the Democratic side.

Since taking office last August following the resignation of Andrew Cuomo, Hochul has raised more than $30 million in her campaign for a full term.
