A prominent LGBTQ Democratic club in New York on Monday evening endorsed Gov. Kathy Hochul's campaign for a full term while also backing her progressive rival's choice for lieutenant governor, activist Ana Maria Archila.

The Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club at the same time endorsed Attorney General Letitia James, Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who are running unopposed in the June 28 primary.

“The Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club has long been a leading voice for justice, and I am beyond proud to earn their endorsement," Hochul said. "At a time when LGBTQ+ rights are under attack across the nation, I'm committed to ensuring New York remains a national leader in the fight to advance dignity and full equality for every resident."

Hochul faces New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, who is running on an informal ticket with Archila, as well as Rep. Tom Suozzi and his preferred running mate, former New York City Councilwoman Diana Reyna.

Former Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin resigned from office and suspended his campaign this month after he was indicted on fraud and bribery charges.

Democratic officials are trying to find a way of replacing Benjamin on the ballot ahead of the primary, though the window to do so is closing, and the laws governing replacing candidates are narrow.
