The labor union that represents State University of New York employees is launching an ad campaign to push for more funding in the public higher education system.
The ads from the United University Professions comes as state lawmakers are negotiating Gov. Kathy Hochul's $216 billion spending proposal.
The union is calling for $155.8 million for the SUNY system's public teaching hospital operations as well as new funding for SUNY Downstate. The institution took a deep financial hit when it was declared a COVID-only hospital.
State lawmakers who represent Brooklyn, meanwhile, recently urged the governor to include more funding for SUNY Downstate.
Hochul's budget calls for billions of dollars for growing the state's health care workforce by 20% over the next five years.
