New York Attorney General Letitia James' bid for a second term on Tuesday was endorsed by a half-dozen state and national organizations that advocate for women.

The groups endorsing James pointed to her efforts to preserve abortion rights and access to reproductive health care in the state as well as standing up to "powerful forces" on behalf of women in the workplace.

“It may be 2022 but the fight for women’s equality is far from over; in fact, women’s empowerment faces fresh and ever-evolving attacks from forces who want to turn back the clock of progress,” James said. “I am inspired by the trust these powerful women’s organizations have placed in me. I will never back down from standing up for women and making sure no boss or politician ever comes in between a woman and her constitutional rights.”

James was endorsed by Higher Heights for America, EMILY’s List, National Organization for Women New York, Eleanor’s Legacy, #VOTEPROCHOICE, and Downtown Women for Change.

“Attorney General Letitia James is a prolific, effective, and fearless leader for all New Yorkers, but especially for women who need a champion in government,” said the coalition of women’s groups. “Tish has taken on the assault on women’s reproductive rights and stood up to those who harm women, no matter how powerful they might be. As the first woman elected Attorney General in the history of New York and the first woman of color elected statewide, Tish is a trailblazer and a changemaker who has earned our trust and our votes.”
