U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin's campaign for governor on Thursday got the endorsement of a labor union, days after he released his first TV ad of the cylce. Gov. Kathy Hochul's campaign on Thursday also netted more endorsements from Democrats in New York City.

Here's a roundup of the day's campaign news in New York.

Operating Engineers local endorses Zeldin

A union that represents operating engineers in New York on Thursday backed Rep. Lee Zeldin's bid for governor, pointing to his support for infrastructure projects while in Congress.

"We’ve worked hard with you to deliver legislative victories for Long Island like the Safe Bridges Act, and make sure key infrastructure projects like the $2 billion Electron Ion Collider are brought to Long Island where they belong,” said John Duffy, business manager for International Union of Operating Engineers Local 138. “Local 138 has been honored to stand shoulder to shoulder with you for Long Island’s laborers. Always striving to deliver good, high-paying jobs right into our own backyards and making sure that we continue to have a fighting chance to stay on Long Island and raise our families here. We know from years of working with you that your talent and passion for everyday Long Islanders has delivered great results for us, and we look forward to seeing what you accomplish for all New Yorkers.”

Unions have typically endorsed Democratic candidates in New York, making Zeldin's endorsement here from the local notable. He's seeking the Republican nomination against former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and former Trump administration official Andrew Giuliani.

Zeldin releases first TV ad

Zeldin's campaign this week also released his first TV ad of the cycle that largely focuses on his biography. These kinds of ads are often used by candidates as they seek to build their name recognition as they run statewide.

The 30-second spot decries "liberal crime policies, unaffordable living, people heading for the exits" in New York state. The ad highlights his military service as well as his family.

Hochul gets Democratic endorsements in New York City

Two key county Democratic committees gave Gov. Kathy Hochul their backing as she seeks to run for a full term later this year. Hochul's campaign was backed by Democrats in Queens and Bronx counties.

Hochul is facing a primary challenge from New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi. The endorsements from the Democratic committees is a reflection of the governor's locking up of establishment leaders ahead of the June primary and the rapidly approaching state Democratic convention.

“It is an honor to receive the endorsement of the Queens and Bronx Democratic parties, whose members are as engaged as any in New York and embody the diversity that makes our party and State extraordinary,” Hochul said. “Alongside Chairmen Meeks and Bailey, and community members from both boroughs, we’ll continue to fight for progress and build a brighter, more equitable future for all.”
