The field for governor is growing, but so is the slate of endorsements for Gov. Kathy Hochul in her bid to win a full term next year.

Hochul was endorsed on Tuesday by two Democratic Party county leaders: Joe Landry of Schenectady and Scott Reing of Putnam County, her campaign announced.

“I am honored to receive the endorsements of Joe Landy and Scott Reing,” Hochul said. “I’ve had the privilege of working with both of these chairs as we build the party across the state. They have both enjoyed tremendous success in their leadership positions, and I look forward to working with them to build upon that foundation.”

The endorsements came hours after New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams formally entered the race for governor with the release of a launch video highlighting his biography.

Williams ran against Hochul in 2018 for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor.

But the coming 2022 primary is expected to be much more crowded. New York Attorney General Letitia James is also seeking the nomination, and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, along with Rep. Tom Suozzi, could enter the race in the coming weeks as well.

Both James and Hochul have locked up early endorsements, and the incumbent governor has gained the backing of upstate party members in recent weeks.

“Since taking office, Gov. Kathy Hochul has hit the ground running to improve the lives of families in Schenectady County,” Landry said. “As the leader of our party, Kathy has shown a commitment to strengthening our party in every corner of the state. I am honored to endorse her re-election campaign and stand by her as she delivers for our state.”
