Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul will be in New York City on Tuesday to meet with a former electoral rival of hers and the rival of outgoing Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Hochul, who is set to be sworn in as governor a week from now, will meet with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio -- a meeting that comes after years of tension between the mayor and the governor of New York.

Meanwhile, she will also meet with New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, a Democrat who ran against Hochul in a party primary in 2018. That meeting also carries signficance and intrigue: Williams is believed to be in the mix to become Hochul's lieutenant governor, and he has also not ruled out running for governor himself in 2022.

Hochul later in the day is set to meet in a roundtable setting with teachers, parents and school staff to discuss reopening safely and getting kids back to the classroom this fall amid the pandemic.

Hochul will be the first governor from western New York in more than a century, and as she builds up her name recognition statewide, will have to shore up support in New York City, the economic powerhouse of the state.

At the same time, Hochul's sit-downs with de Blasio and Williams, while expected to be private, are signals she plans to make a break with the outgoing administration.
