Republican gubernatorial hopeful Lee Zeldin on Tuesday picked up the backing of a trio of Republicans in the New York state Senate in his bid for the GOP nomination.

Zeldin himself served in the state Senate from 2011 to 2015 prior to his election to the House of Representatives from an eastern Long Island district.

Zeldin was endorsed by Sens. Ed Rath, George Borello and Mike Martucci — the latest sign he's solidifying the support of elected Republicans in New York as well as local county chairs.

“New York is in desperate need of a leader who will save our state from Andrew Cuomo’s crushing taxes, criminal first agenda, and anti-police crusade," Rath said in a statement. "Lee Zeldin has shown his ability to work with anyone and everyone to deliver real results for New York and has what it takes to put us back on the right track."

Zeldin is competing for the Republican nomination for governor against former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and Andrew Giuliani.
