Beaches and pools in New York can open Memorial Day weekend with six feet of social distancing in place, with the goal of having those facilities at 100% capacity by the July 4 holiday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday said.

The announcement comes as 50% of all adult New Yorkers are now fully vaccinated and the COVID positive rate in New York is continuing a steady, weeks-long decline. The statewide positive rate in the last day stood at 1.10%, Cuomo said.

Hospitalizations have fallen to 1,928 patients statewide and 26 people were confirmed to have died of the virus in the last day.

New York officials are also pushing to expand vaccination access statewide at transportation hubs. Shots will be available at train stations in New York City and in the metropolitan region starting Wednesday and running through Sunday.

The games will be played at Sahlen Field with fans in attendance. Like at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field in the Bronx and Queens, fans will be split into vaccinated and unvaccinated sections.

Those seated in unvaccinated sections must socially distance. Anyone who receives a vaccine at the game will get a free ticket to a Buffalo Bisons game next year.
