A bill meant to allow terminally ill patients to choose a medical aid-in-dying option has stalled over the last several years at the state Capitol. But now a new push is underway to see the measure approved his year as the legislative session winds down in Albany.

The group Compassion & Choices on Tuesday released a new ad featuring a Brooklyn resident and her late mother making calling for the pass of the bill.

“You only come to that point where you want to die, is when life becomes unbearable," said Fay Hoh Yin, who died last year.

Her daughter, Monona says, “My mom had incurable lymphoma. All she wanted was peace at the end of her life.” But fear over the pain caused by the illness robbed them of their final months together, she says in the ad.

The ad is the third spot to be released this legislative session to push for the bill. Supporters have called for a medical aid-in-dying bill for the last several years in New York. The law would allow mentally capable, but terminally ill adults with six months or less to live to request a prescription from their doctor to end their lives.

Ten states, along with Washington D.C., allow for medical aid in dying. New Mexico was the most recent state to do so last month.
