Mobile vaccination sites will be set up at farms and other agribusinesses in New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced.

Sun River Health will administer the mobile vaccination effort, which has been sought for weeks by the New York Farm Bureau as part of a push to vaccinate farmworkers across the state as the spring planting season was about to get underway.

Many farmworkers are migrants and seasonal workers who arrive in the state in the early spring.

"We want to get everyone vaccinated," Cuomo said. "We need to reach herd immunity. It's a fascinating situation where until everybody is safe, nobody is safe."

The announcement, made at the Angry Orchard Cider House in Orange County, also came as federal regulators placed a pause on the use of the Johnson & Johnson-made vaccine after blood clots were reported in six women who had received doses. Nearly 7 million people have been vaccinated using the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccination.

New York is among the states that have placed a pause on Johnson & Johnson distribution as health officials assess the situation. Cuomo said there is enough supply of the Pfizer and Moderna-manufactured doses to keep up vaccinations.

"When they finish doing their work on the Johnson & Johnson, we'll resume using the Johnson & Johnson," he said.
