State officials in New York are moving to expand access to vaccinations for older New Yorkers, working with local government officials to provide transportation and expand the number of sites.

The move will affect New Yorkers age 65 and older. No locations were announced on Friday.

The announcement comes as counties across the state, which have sought an expanded role in vaccine distribution, will receive a boosted supply of the Moderna vaccine next week.

"New York is getting more and more needles in arms every single day, with a focus on vaccinating our most vulnerable residents," Cuomo said in a statement.

"We know that our senior New Yorkers are more at-risk with COVID, and it's critical that we provide them with access to the vaccine right in their own communities, as well as the assistance they need to schedule and get to and from their appointments."

Officials announced earlier on Friday more than 179,000 doses of the vaccine were administered over 24 hours in New York, with more than 4 million first and second doses of the vaccine adminsitered so far.
