There are 17 abortion cases that a newly muscular conservative Supreme Court could decide to hear, according to Robin Chappelle Golston, chair of Planned Parenthood, Empire State Votes PAC.

"We really don’t know which one they’re going to move forward with and actually put on the docket," Golston said. "That’s currently where we are."

All 17 cases originate from states that are hostile to abortion, and they all eliminate access to abortion, some earlier in a pregnancy, some later.

Since there is nothing standing in the way of President Trump’s nomination of a justice, I asked Golston if she supported "packing" the court, which is another way of saying expanding the Supreme Court to more than nine seats.

"We are trying to not weigh in on that issue yet," she said. "I think there are a lot of issues at play. Unfortunately; the court has become political and partisan in a way that it was not meant to be."

Golston says she might support a review of additional justices, or possibly even term limits.

But before it comes to that, Golston is urging people to put pressure on moderate senators who are up for re-election.

"They (Republican senators) are falling in line, so it’s really about people putting political pressure on their legislators and their senators to do the right thing," Golston said.

She’s also hoping voters see hypocrisy in allowing a COVID-19 relief package to languish while rushing through a SCOTUS nomination that is far less urgent.

"They’re so fast to rush this nominee through for the Supreme Court, yet the COVID-19 relief package sits and collects dust and people are suffering across this country," she said. "(A supreme court nomination) should be a decision after the next president is seated."
